This morning we drove west from Antibes, along the coast toward Agay in the Var, to go hiking in the Estérel. We spent about five hours hiking and picnicking among the beautiful, red, rocky, volcanic terrain overlooking the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Looking toward the west, we had views of le Rocher Saint-Barthélémy, le Cap Roux, and le Cap du Dramont.
Looking toward the east on the seaside, we had views of la Baie de Cannes, les Îles de Lérins, and even Cap d’Antibes. On the opposite side from the sea, we had mountain views of le Pic de l’Ours and le Mont Vinaigre.
Summer forest fires have destroyed many of the beautiful cork oak trees that used to populate this area.
At the end of our hike, we stopped at this small lake so that Christiane could continue her tradition of providing nourishment for the local ducks.
