We spent New Years weekend in the picturesque village of Beuil with our friends, Christiane & Michel, in their chalet on the right-hand side of the photo. If you look closely, you can see the small yellow trianglular roof of their chalet sticking up on the left-hand side of the dark gray church steeple. Along with Christiane, Michel, Nathalie, Phillipe, Elsa, & Guillaume, we spent the weekend skiing, hiking, eating, drinking, and playing Whist (a card game which is ancestral to Bridge).
After le réveillon de la Saint-Sylvestre (New Year’s Eve Dinner) in Valberg, we went back to Beuil for a glass of génépi at the small pub in the village. At the stroke of midnight, everyone was kissing everyone on each cheek – including strangers. Dave was a bit taken aback when strange men were kissing him on both sides of his face, but he handled it quite graciously.
