Jutta and I drove over to Nice this morning to take care of some other business, but could find parking only in front of the Eglise Russe, which is always a very impressive site.
The Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Nice was built between 1903 and 1912 in order to accommodate the large number of Russian aristocrats who vacationed along the warm, balmy Mediterranean Sea. The ornate and exotic architecture was made possible due to the generosity of Czar Nicolas II, and includes glazed tiles from Italy, bricks from England, and gold leaf and mosaic icons made by Russian artists. It is the largest Russian church built outside of Russia, and provides quite a contrast in style sitting among the Mediterranean architecture of the Côte d’Azur.
Hi there,
I'm in Nice at the moment and very interested in this place. Is it possible if you can tell me the location of this Cathedral.
Appreciate your reply.
Regards,
Nan
