I went to La Malmaison in Cannes with some friends from the International Women’s Club of the Riviera to see an exhibit of works by Armand Avril. He is a French artist who is strongly influenced by his passion for primitive African art. He brings life back to ordinary daily objects, such as clothes pins, champagne corks, stones, bits of wood, material fragments, colors, etc., by using them to create very detailed and enigmatic works of art on large panels. He also has one of the most important primitive art collections in Europe, some of which was on display at this exhibit at La Malmaison.
Our museum trip was followed by an alfresco luncheon next door at Le Grand Bleu, on what has turned out to be the hottest day of summer so far. It was registered as 32°Celsius ! Fortunately, the chilled rosé helped us maintain our cool for the rest of the afternoon.
