For the second time in three years (along with Niki) we got to see the Cuban musicians from The Buena Vista Social Club inspiring us to dance in our chairs to their captivating rhythms. It was all but impossible to sit still while watching and listening to Ibrahim Ferrer sing with a band of about 15 other musicians – all dancing and swaying and having such a good time on stage.
Niki & Fred and Dave & I started out sipping champagne and listening to Omara Portuondo, who was the only female musician featured in the Buena Vista Social Club film. The evening ended with Omara and Ibrahim dancing together and singing what seemed to be a love song to each other and to the audience. It would have been a great moment to capture in a photograph, however, by the time Ibrahim Ferrer got to the stage, Dave almost had his camera confiscated by the security personnel. Apparently, cameras are forbidden at these concerts.
